(YPN.co) – A few years ago I was selling ads at the local news paper for the National Day of Prayer. I sold ads to the local schools, Politicians, businesses and of course churches. They all had a scripture from the bible and the name of the of the person, school or business that paid for them.

Months later I was informed that many of them received letters from an organization named Freedom from Religion Foundation telling them that they can't do it anymore. I was told they said they were going to boycott their businesses if they ever did it again. The local politicians and schools were told because they were elected officials that they had to refrain in the future from buying ads for this event or they would file a lawsuit against them.

So I decided to do a little research on this organization. After visiting their website I found out they call themselves free thinkers. The Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., claims to be an educational group working for the separation of state and church. Its purposes, as stated in its bylaws, are to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism.

Incorporated

This is unbelievable
in 1978 in Wisconsin, the Foundation is a national membership association of freethinkers: atheists, agnostics and skeptics of any pedigree. The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). All dues and contributions are deductible for income tax purposes.

What the Foundation's claims they have accomplished.

The Foundation acts on countless violations of separation of state and church on behalf of members and the public, including: Prayers in public schools, payment of public funds for religious purposes, government funding of pervasively sectarian institutions, and the ongoing campaign against civil rights for women, gays and lesbians led by churches.

The Foundation keeps several challenges in the courts at all times, and has ended a variety of violations of the First Amendment.

This is why they claim the Foundation is concerned with state/church entanglement?

They say First Amendment violations are accelerating. The religious right is campaigning to raid the public till and advance religion at taxpayer expense, attacking our secular public schools, the rights of nonbelievers, and the Establishment Clause.

The Foundation claims that the United States was first among nations to adopt a secular Constitution. That the founders who wrote the U.S. Constitution wanted citizens to be free to support the church of their choice, or no religion at all. That our Constitution was very purposefully written to be a godless document, whose only references to religion are exclusionary.

It is vital to buttress the Jeffersonian "wall of separation between church and state" which has served our nation so well.

And this is what this Foundation Does.

Files lawsuits!

Publishes the only freethought newspaper in the United States, Freethought Today

Sponsors annual high school and college freethought essay competitions with cash awards

Conducts lively, annual national conventions, honoring an annual "Freethinker of the Year" for state/church activism, a "Freethought Heroine" and student activists

Bestows "The Emperor Has No Clothes" Award and statuette to public figures for plain speaking on religion

Promotes

You don't need God? Thats fine, but I do so leave us alone!!!
freedom from religion with educational products, bumperstickers, music CDs, winter solstice greeting cards and literature

Publishes useful freethought books

Provides speakers for events and debates

Established a freethought book collection at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Library as well as a 2,000-volume office collection

At first I thought that I should not even bother sharing this with anyone because this organization that has been formed for 33 years represents only 16,600 members. We have more people right here in Allen Parish. But when these people start messing with my lively hood, trying to scare God loving Christians here in my hometown to stop showing support for their God, then they messed with the wrong person.

I'm all for freedom of religion. If you don't want to be part of a National Day of Prayer, then don't participate. And as far as you filing lawsuits because the religious right is campaigning to raid the public till and advance religion at taxpayer expense, it's our tax dollars too. And i'm not great at math but with 243,186,000 Christians compared to your 16,600 members you are sorely out numbered. The United States has the largest Christian population on earth.

You need to know that the freedom from religion foundation is attacking you using billboards, Youtube videos, the media and writing letters to people threating them.

This organization's co-presidents DAN BARKER and ANNIE LAURIE GAYLOR travel the country speaking on shutting down all of OUR freedom of religion. They want us to stop worshiping God and think like them.

I think it's time we tell them to shut their mouths and mind their own business. It's time we send them letters and emails. Call their office and tell them we Christians out number them and they do not speak for us.

Please phone the Freedom From Religion Foundation office at (608) 256-8900 to speak directly with Foundation Co-Presidents Annie Laurie Gaylor and Dan Barker or other staff there in Madison, Wis.
