Lake Charles Woman Arrested for Felony DWI and Child Endangerment Among Other Charges After Crash
Jefferson Davis – Early this morning, a mother, with her four young children in the vehicle, crashed from being impaired. The three youngest children were not in child restraints and were unrestrained in the vehicle. One child received moderate injuries and burns, after the vehicle became engulfed in flames, and the other three received minor injuries.
Troopers responded to the crash around 12:35 a.m., which occurred on US Hwy 165 south of LA Hwy 101. The crash involved a 2005 Buick van, driven by Kate Elizabeth Davis (W/F 29 yrs). The Buick was northbound on US Hwy 165 when Davis lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After the vehicle exited the roadway, it entered a ditch and collided with a culvert before becoming airborne. The vehicle then came to rest, in the ditch, and became fully engulfed in flames after this sequence of events.
A good samaritan stopped at the crash site. He removed the children from the burning car and, in doing so, received burns to his leg.
An eight year old male was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette for treatment of his injuries. The other children in the vehicle, at the time of the crash, are identified as a one year old male, two year old male, and a five year old male. They were transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Davis was arrested and charged with DWI 3rd, DWI with child endangerment, resisting arrest by fighting, resisting arrest by giving false information, improper lane usage, and no child restraint (three counts). She was booked into the Jefferson Davis Detention Center.
The Department of Child and Family Services was contacted and responded to the incident.
