(YouPostTheNews) – The Kinder baseball team started the season off with a bang with a 10 run rule shutout win over parish rival Oakdale in Kinder Thursday night. Kinder looked like the defending 2A state champs they are scoring five runs in the first inning, many on errors by the Warriors of Oakdale. Don Charles Arceneaux pitched the entire game for the Jackets, striking out 7 and allowing no runs and only 2 hits.
McNeese commit Zach Rider had two singles in the game and scored three runs. UL commit Dylon Poncho was 2-2 with two singles and two RBI's. Poncho scored two runs and hit the game winning single in the bottom of the 5th. He also was hit by pitches in the 2nd and 4th.
Arceneaux helped his cause with a big double in the 4th inning that scored two runs and tacked on another with a fielders choice in the 1st.
New first baseman Sophomore Stag Credeur had two hits in the game. He had a single in the 1st inning scoring a run and another single in the 3rd.
Oakdale led off the game with a single up the middle and was able to get runners on 2nd and 1st with an error on Kinder's 2nd baseman on what could have been a double play ball. But Kinder shut down the inning with a double play ball to 1st base then with a tag at 2nd by Poncho on the perfect throw from Credeur. Then Kinder got a ground ball out to stop the threat.
Kinder's Rider hit a deep ball over 2nd that dropped on for an error landing him at 2nd base. Welles Cooley laid down a sac bunt to move the runner over to 3rd. Poncho hit a single up the middle that got pass the defender scoring Rider and landing Poncho at 3rd base. Bryce Baker reached base on a ball in the dirt 3rd strikeout. Arceneaux then hit into a fielders choice scoring Poncho. Jarad Rider then hit a ball to 3rd base that got pass the player scoring another run. Credeur came up and hit a single pass 2nd base scoring the 4th run for the Jackets. Gavin Sonnier hit a deep ball to center field that was dropped for an error scoring the 5th run of the inning for the Jackets.
Arceneaux then struck out the side with two of them looking in the 2nd. He also struck out one in the 3rd and two in the 4th.
Kinder tacked on 3 runs in the 4th that started with a single by Rider pass 3rd base followed by a single by Cooley to left field. Poncho was hit by a pitch for a second time in the game to load the bases. Baker hit a soft liner towards the pitcher who made a bad throw home allowing Rider to score a run. Arceneaux then ripped a double pass 2nd base scoring two RBI's.
Kinder closed out the game in the 5th when Sophomore Christian Khammany was hit by a pitch and then stole 2nd and 3rd base putting him in scoring position on 3rd. Rider got an RBI with a single up the middle. Cooley was able to reach on an error just before Poncho singled up the middle scoring the winning run.
Kinder will play Menard tomorrow at 5:45 pm who is looking to get their revenge from last years quarterfinals loss to the Jackets. Menard led the game 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th but lost after Rider hit an inside the park homerun tying the game. Baker then won the game with a single advancing Kinder into the semifinals and eventually to the finals and the championship.
